Runner-up disciple

Justus, next in line but outside --

apart. Almost a part.

Just us, not you. Certainly

a good man, too good --

just not good enough.

Of 90 apostles for Judas' spot

two names came up.

One requirement: no more betrayal.

Justus did not seal the deal,

seize victory, win the race,

beat out ever popular Matthias,

make it an even dozen again.

Instead, runner-up by an eyelash,

Jesus winking from the shadows,

irony nailed to humility --

some kind of justice for all.
